Yesterday evening I decided to hit the grocery store because they were having a great sale and I didn’t want to miss the last day to scoop up those awesome deals.
Everything was great, we got pretty much everything I wanted to grab; but, just as we were at the counter getting ready to check out, I started shaking, my heart started pounding, I felt like I couldn’t breathe and…wtf an anxiety attack? Here?
I managed to hold it together and helped pay, bag, pack the car, get home and carry the groceries into the house but no sooner had we taken the last thing inside I started hyperventilating and shaking uncontrollably.
My husband (who has the patience of a saint and gives me more understanding and support than I deserve) poured me a glass of water, which I couldn’t hold as my hands were shaking so much that the water was spilling all over the place, so he held the glass for me while I took large sips, he talked me down, put a straw in the glass and sat me down on the couch so I could calm down while he put things away in the kitchen.
It took a bit but I managed to chill out and help put away the last few things — I’ve had many anxiety attacks but nothing quite as extreme or way out of the blue as this (ah well, that was yesterday and today is a new day! Let’s move on!).
